Lifestlyle & Travel
The Ampera is fast, environmentally friendly and looks great. The singer Katie Melua is committed, loves driving fast and also looks great. We were in London to see her being presented as the new Opel Ambassador.
There are two stars present this morning: the Ampera and Katie Melua. One is being constantly polished and admired, while the other is full of excited anticipation. London is rather neglectful of these VIPs on this Sunday morning in November, greeting them with a grey sky rather than sunshine. If the Opel staff who travelled over from Germany had their way, the sun would be shining and there wouldn’t be a cloud in the sky.
The reason is that they finally managed to get the singer Katie Melua to be the Brand Ambassador for the Ampera, and you couldn’t imagine anyone more suitable than her. Katie is natural, spontaneous, charming and isn’t scared to get stuck in. She says that more needs to be done for the environment. In spite of her success, she comes across as genuine and sincere. She demonstrates with her lyrics that she has a mind of her own, is deep, but also has a sense of humour.
Difficult conditions
The fact that the sky is full of rain clouds isn’t the only thing that doesn’t go to plan that morning. No one had thought to mention to the visitors from Rüsselsheim that lots of roads would be blocked off due to a Remembrance Day ceremony. People are starting to feel slightly nervous about whether they can keep to the schedule, whether the car bringing Katie will arrive on time and whether they will be able to get to London Bridge later on for a photo shoot with all these roads blocked off. The following day, Monday, the secret about Opel’s new Brand Ambassador is to be revealed. A live stream will be broadcast worldwide from London, but the accompanying film and photo footage needs to be produced today.
A better location for the production of the live stream couldn’t have been chosen: the Air Studios in London. They belonged at one time to Beatles producer, George Martin. A framed sheet of music for “Yesterday” hangs on the wall in the entrance. Big names such as Elton John, Coldplay and Take That have recorded here. Mike Batt, the producer who discovered Katie Melua and made her big, also walks in and out of the former church building.
